During my 17 year career in UK universities, I have worked closely with a wide variety of small organisations, both directing and participating in action research programmes to improve firm performance. These highly practical, hands-on and interactive courses were based on Checkland's Soft Systems Methodology and Beer's Viable Systems Model.

I have experience of a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, retail, knowledge-based firms, the police force and community radio.  I have also studied the interactions of small service units within larger organisations.  More recently, reflecting my own scientific background, I became involved with new technology-based firms emerging from universities. Current interests include designing strategies for social media for training and communication purposes

I have also designed courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in a range of management and technolgoy areas for delivery in the UK, and also in Hong Kong, The Middle East and Africa.
